I was doing some learning on tutorials and I was wondered where I find what version of Bootstrap I have in DW 2017.0.1 build 9346. If it isn't version 4, when is that coming out?

Thanks

You have version 3 in DW. Bootstrap v4 is in beta testing and will be out officially.......who knows when, a long time coming.

You mean download files  from the remote server to your local computer hard drive?

If you have the FTP log-in credentials for your server, it's not hard.

Define a Site.    Go to Site > New Site.

CC-localsite.jpg

Under Servers, enter your log-in credentials.  If unsure what to use, contact your web hosting provider.

With Files Panel expanded, click Connect to see the contents on your Remote server.  Use the Down Arrow to GET selected files/folders from server to local folder.

Post back if you have any questions.

If you use DW to create your Bootstrap and jQuery files for you, chances are you're using Bootstrap 3.7 and jQuery 1.11.3

Bootstrap 4 (Alpha)  is not a release candidate.   No word yet on the official release version date.  Read more about it below:

https://blog.getbootstrap.com/2015/08/19/bootstrap-4-alpha/

That does not preclude you from testing it.  You can use the CDN hosted links below.

That depends on how good you are with RegEx statements.

Dreamweaver 8 update on Windows 10 64 bit?.....

Hi, I have Dreamweaver 8 but I don't have any update filter when I go into the help menu, but if I remove DW and re-install a page comes up during the installation telling me that DW8 needs updating in order to interact correctly with Internet Explorer (something like that), I am having trouble finding the correct update to get past this issue.  I am operating on Windows 10 64 bit, any help would be greatly appreciated please.  Many thanks in advance, Clare

Sorry, I have no solutions for you.   The activation servers for DW8 were shut down many years ago.

Macromedia released  DW8 in 2005.  The company went out of business in 2007.

DW8 reached it's end of life in 2008.   It's no longer supported or updated.

It's time to find a modern web authoring app that's compatible with your operating system.

While your program is seriously ancient by internet standards, the updaters are still available through Adobe's site. I have no idea if they'll still work under W10 (many versions removed from the OS they were designed for) but you can get them here...

Adobe - Dreamweaver Support Center : Updaters

If they run, you'll only be updated to 8.0.2. From what I recall, most of the bug fixes were for Macs. As far as the IE alert, I don't know how much that will really affect you under W10. IE was replaced by Edge and the market share for that browser is dwindling every day.

Hi Clayton,

Just to be sure, did you try restarting your computer? The other cases where we have seen sluggishness in DW is because of files being hosted on a remote drive.

If you still need help, send me your Adobe ID, location, and phone number over a private message. Click my picture and use the Message button. The team can investigate the issue for you and log a bug if required.

Thanks,

Preran

Nancy,  I had 15 coding errors on the page, but Dreamweaver was not noting any of the errors (red line number) and the page worked fine with Chrome and also Bing.

I cannot use the W3C validation on Dreamweaver because of the php code embedded within the HTML.  Under Validation, the "Live View" option is listed but is in a light color and does not function.  If I run Validate from Dreamweaver, The PHP code causes lots of errors.

I used an online W3C validator ( Showing results for http://www.fishingcostarica.bookingcr.com - Nu Html Checker  and it works fine with the php.  This is where I found and fixed the 15 errors.

I have two questions

  • Do you know how to activate the "live View Validator" that is a part of Dreamweaver and would it work for pages that have HTML and PHP?
  • I would like to suggest that when "Live View" detects errors and cannot Refresh, Dreamweaver should display a Pop-Up or some indication the there are errors - not just display the code view with all black letters.

Upload HTML files from an old site to domain name

I have a domain name and HTML from an old web site.  How hard it to upload to Dreamweaver?

Dreamweaver is an HTML code editor.  It is not a web hosting provider.

A web host is a company that has public facing web servers to which you upload your site files and associate with your domain name that you purchased from Network Solutions.   Some examples of web hosts in no particular order:

  • DreamHost
  • Bluehost
  • HostGator
  • Hostmonster
  • InMotion
  • Lunarpages
  • Pair Networks
  • 1&1
  • GoDaddy (although I can't recommend them)
  • and many others....

Only through their Business Catalyst program.  Largely aimed at businesses who require business web solutions and hosting rolled into one.

First of all ordinary W3C Validation is for HTML code.  It doesn't understand raw PHP code.

Do you have a local testing server installed and defined in DW yet?  You'll need one to parse PHP code.   I have Wamp server and my PHP sites are inside the server's default web folder. (aka localhost)   See screenshots.

CC-testingServer3.jpg

CC-testingServer4.jpg

CC-testingServer-final.jpg

Once your testing server is set-up, you can go to View > Live Code.  You will see the parsed code which is how the browser "sees" the code on a server.

From there you can run Validation on Live Document.

Yes. I've rebooted (several times, actually). My files are located on a second internal hard drive in my laptop, so I don't think that's the problem.

I'm going to create a restore point on my other laptop, update to this version of DW and see if I have the same problems. Maybe it's the first computer, although everything was working fine until that update...

Even if you get the updaters to work, there's no guarantee DW8 will function properly on Win10 64 bit.  It was built to run on Win XP.

My advice is to download Brackets (it's free).   It works on all modern systems (Win, Mac and Linux).

Brackets - A modern, open source code editor that understands web design.

When you're ready to step up to DW CC 2017 (the latest version), you may be interested to know that it uses the Brackets code engine.
